Commercial EPC’s

Commercial EPC’s and all you need to know

An energy performance certificate (EPC) rates how energy efficient your building is and provides an asset rating for your building rated from A to G.

The rating is a measure of the theoretical energy performance that the property could be expected to receive. An EPC contains a recommendation report for improvements to reduce your energy costs.

An EPC assesses the heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting systems as well as the insulation elements of the property, wall insultation and thickness, roof insultation as well as the types of windows.

The recommendation report will help confirm the best ways of improving the efficiency of the property. They will also highlight appropriate renewable energy that may improve the efficiency of the property.

You must have an EPC if:

  • you rent or sell your commercial property;
  • you complete construction of a new building;
  • you significantly alter an existing building;
  • you alter a building and the changes involve providing or extending fixed heating, air conditioning or mechanical ventilation.
